Why do I coach? Well, put simply, it’s my love for Crossfit and the premise behind it. It’s helped me change my life in so many ways over the last few years since I started. I was out of shape, lazy and I felt I had lost my competitive spirit and should have gone to a doctor for Low T. Since then, Traver and Eric have re-ignited the fire in my belly and I’ve got back into shape, found something to challenge myself and all the while build meaningful relationships with the community. 4x WIN in my book.
I love the fact that Crossfit brings together a community of like-minded people who have a tenacity for life. I tend to think that anyone who can work their tail off day in and day out doing Crossfit can generally tackle life’s obstacles and hardships with greater ease.
The type of people that care about how they feel, look, their relationships with others and general progression through life. I get excited to see others achieve a PR or simply accomplish a feat of mobility that they’ve been working on for months.
I love to line up eye to eye against Fielding for Fran and see if all my small man complex jokes will help him shave a few seconds off his time. I’m constantly inspired by Claw, Augie, Lum’s (and many more) relentless pursuit to never let age bring them down. I hope to be just like them many moons from now. Or on the other end of the spectrum seeing a young kid trying his/her best in off-season training for the sport that they love.
I enjoy the challenge of coaching. I’ve been behind a desk working on a computer for the last 11 years. While my career has been great, I’m not convinced it’s my life’s calling. Not saying that Coaching is but it’s something I can imagine myself doing 100% later in life.
The future. Eric and Traver think day in and day out how they can improve the experience at the gym for everyone. We are always discussing neat new ideas. It’s exciting to be around that sort of vibe. Before I know it I could be front running a fun, unique program or helping put on an event.
Constant learning. I’ve earned the Crossfit coaching certificate but that is about .001% of the wealth of knowledge yet to be consumed. Every day I’m learning something new – whether it be about nutrition, mobility, Oly lifting techniques, how to speak effectively, Augie life lesson’s 101, and much more – I think Traver and Eric pro-actively want to make us better people, not just better coaches. They encourage flexibility to have your own coaching style (and play your preferred music hehe).
All in all I simply loving coaching at CPC, spending time with friends on a daily basis and simply have fun doing work.
