I believe we can all admit that a majority of the recognition in athletics, CrossFit gyms, business, and life tend to go to those at the top of their respective “leader boards.” I believe we would also all agree that many of the best stories are those that fly under the radar.
Amber Veazey is not the most outspoken person we have in class. She’s not going to slam down a barbell full of bumper weights with a savage roar. You won’t find her talking shit before a WOD (although it would be awesome if she did). Nor will you find her pushing herself into areas that negatively affect her training.
When A.V. first walked into our doors, she was quiet, relatively weak, and most likely intimidated. Well, things have changed. Amber is officially a badass. Over the last two years plus, we’ve seen her quiet consistency and unwavering work ethic morph her into a very impressive female athlete. For those who witnessed her performance during Hell Week, I dare you to disagree.
She is, in my mind, the ideal CrossFitter and I’ll tell you why. She put form before intensity during her training and made consistency her strong suit. No matter how fast she finishes a WOD, she always stays and cheers for those still working. She comes early and stays late to work on things that are perceived weaknesses on her game.
Amber trains with a purpose and understands that our journey towards elite fitness is not a sprint. Every day is merely a step forward (or sometimes backward) toward that ultimate goal. She listens to her body and put form before intensity during her infancy and adolescent stages. She worked hard for well over a year to get her first pull-up and didn’t stop there. Now she regularly crushes workouts with 50+ and makes it look effortless…not to mention her chin is always 1-3” above the bar on EVERY REP.
You’re going to see more and more of Amber Veazey on the leader boards, so get used to it. Here’s to you AV…keep up the hard work!!!
