8 WEEK CHALLENGE?!! WHY CPC, WHY?!

I want a neck like that for one week for jiujitsu. Aug with a big pull during Hell Week.

Rumor has it that our Paleo challenge is now going to be eight weeks long instead of four weeks long. Double you. Tee. Eff?!

Now that we have five Paleo challenges under our belts, and five groups of post challenge results and feedback to work with, we’ve decided to change things up a bit, and we feel like there’s good reason behind it.

One of Eric and my pet peeves about the health, wellness, and/or fitness industry and its many products and claims is that the vast majority of them are unsustainable.

From the feedback we’ve gotten, the changes that people make to “get through” the Paleo challenge are also for the most part unsustainable as well. Checking out of your real life for four weeks sounds a lot like the standard version of a “diet”. Suffer to get through it and then go back to your regular habits. Not this time around.

** What we’re after in this challenge is not perfection; it’s the opposite in fact. We want you to take this challenge and completely assimilate it into your daily life, we feel this is significantly more powerful than organizing your daily life around the challenge for the eight weeks. Trust us on this one, at the end of it all, the changes that you’ve made and the decisions underneath them will stay with you.

The challenge will cost $45 for the eight weeks (just skip one cup of Starbucks a week and you’re actually making money on this) and will include:

-         Our next workout challenge Trials and Finals

-         Pre and Post challenge body measurements

-         Access to the Whole Life Challenge CPC Team website for seeing how everyone ranks throughout the eight weeks.

-         Opportunities to win prizes every week from local sponsors such as Backyard Bowl, Revolution Wellness, Meenut Butter and more.

-         The opportunity to enroll your friends and family members so that they can play along with you.

On Thursday July 19th at 7pm, Eric and I will explain the whole deal from soup to nuts. Bring your pads, paper, and questions.

Today’s Workout:
Press 5-3-2-2-1-1

Followed by:

15 Min AMRAP
10 Push Press (95#/65#)
20 Med Ball V-Twists (R/L=1)
30 Double unders

"There is a better way and that is The Starch Solution." Lulz. So, homeboy got all huffy and wanted to tell us all about his feelings, forgot to cite credible sources a number of times, made sweeping generalizations about the END OF CIVILIZATION AS WE KNOW IT BECAUSE DUH WE'D BE STUCK IN THE STONE AGE - I'm gonna go ahead and not take it personally. I eat an uncomfortable number of vegetables (seriously, this morning I drank straight beet juice - ask me how it went) so that makes me one of like, a gazillion counterexamples. And as we all know, counterexamples make proofs a bitch (math in real life). I'm guessing that since he runs a weight loss clinic BASED on a low-fat, high starch diet, he might be the teensiest bit angry about stuff like, oh, I don't know.... a) This: http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=1199154 b) Or this: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v482/n7383/full/482027a.html?cid=xrs_rss-nd c) Or maybe even a little at this: http://onpoint.wbur.org/2012/07/05/new-research-on-carbs But hey, that's cool MickeyD. Some days you're up, others you're down. It's like the boys are saying - we all just gotta stay limber and fluid and not get super-duper-tightly attached to any one particular ideology. We gotta just all BE COOL about questioning our own BELIEFS and making sure we're not touting those as FACTS - especially when we charge really high rates to have people come stay at our 10-day Santa Rosa based residential nutritional programs. Amirite?

Awesome KJ - it goes to show that it doesn't matter how old we are we can still improve our diets.

Wow that article is just.... angry, and I feel like he's making uneducated guesses and assumptions. He really believes that we don't eat anything but meat. I guarantee he has not tried Paleo and is simply writing this to sell his starch book. I find it interesting he wrote, "a Paleo follower is required to eat; alligator, bear, kangaroo, deer, rattlesnake, and wild boar are also on the menu." 1. Paleo-ers are not required to eat anything specific 2. What is wrong with eating deer, wild boar etc?? They taste good *Tyler's grandma was told she had high blood preassure & cholestrol and to cut back on her beer (and other carbs). This was surprising because she eats veggies, isn't over weight, is as active as an 85 year old woman can be, and has a good sense about healthy eating. Anyway, she started eating paleo from recipes I would send her(veggies, more meat, and the biggest thing was replacing flour for her baking with almond flour, eating almonds, no refined sugar etc..) and both she and her doctor are shocked at how it lowered her BP and cholestrol and she's losing the little bit of extra weight she had. And she feels good!

Wow, what an incredibly misleading article. I'm not sure where they got the premise that Paleo didn't include a crapload of vegetables. Seriously, I'll even take their distorted version of Paleo over the typical American diet any day. Talk about missing the point.

I believe someone broke his hear...and she probably ate paleo. In all honesty, Malzone's right, it's up to the individual to do the research and decide what works best for them. I know plenty of people who can eat certain foods, with no problems, that I can't. We do these challenges as more of a way for people to figure out how their body works and how it's influenced by certain foods, rather then saying that this is the only way to eat.

Travis- that's not a problem. We're going to be using a web-based software to track, so you can be anywhere and participate (well anywhere with web access). NO EXCUSES!!!!

Can I still participate in the challenge even though I'm out of town through early August?

Wow. The only thing I'll say about this article is that it's certainly emotionally fueled. "Repulsive" is not a scientific term...nor is "sexist" The world of nutrition is a confusing one. There's no shortage of conflicting points of view. Continue to educate yourself as much as possible and make your own decisions. The sad thing is that discussions like the one in this article are debating optimal nutrition. The true scenario is that most Americans are very, very far from optimal nutrition. There's more similarities between these two then differences. People just out to make a buck I guess.
