And sometimes two guys find themselves on a small bench both excited by the glycemic index. We're ok with that.
First of all, I appreciate everybody coming out for our very first “Third Thursday” discussion. The topic I chose to kick it off was the Glycemic Index and the relationship between carbohydrates and our bodies. There’s many of us out there who still believe that all calories are created equal which is both correct and extremely misleading. The obesity epidemic is now a worldwide problem and learning how to use something like the Glycemic Index is one piece of the puzzle.
We discussed how starch and sugar work through the human digestive system initiating a multitude of hormonal responses which lead to calories burned or calories stored. We also discussed how the Glycemic LOAD is a much more practical application then the Glycemic INDEX. Experts on GL agree that anything under 10 is good, 10-20 is doable, and over 20 is bad. A GL of under 150 daily is good and over is bad. If you want more detail, please check out the new formed video archive!
