Bethany crushing all things overhead!

Hopefully by now you have all seen the documentary on juicing, “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.”  Eric and I wondered what would happen to two people who underwent a juice fast that weren’t a hundred pounds overweight and weren’t suffering from Urticaria.  In essence, we want to know what would happen to two highly active CrossFitters who tried the same experiment.  Neither of us feel that we need to devote 60 straight days to this endeavor but are going to stick with it (unless all hell breaks loose) for 10 days and see what happens.

We’ve forewarned our significant others that simply reducing our bacon intake has induced ferocious rage-filled tantrums in the past so we both would like to take this opportunity to publicly apologize for any future outbursts over the next week and a half.

Bacon, we will miss you but we also know that you’ll be there for us ready with a variety of your flavors for our triumphant completion.

Wish us luck folks, and stay tuned for some video updates that we’ll be taking throughout the process.  Our goal is to continue working out and coaching without any major changes to our level of output.  We have no idea if this will be sustainable or possible but are going to give it a go.

  1. First batch of the week includes a batch of kale, 3 zucchini, 3 carrots, 2 apples, 2 pears, a basket of strawberries, quarter pineapple, and beets.

If anybody has recipes, please share

  2. Are you guys scaling back your physical exertion?

  3. Karen, we’re going to try to keep our training volume the same and see what happens. It’s more of a day to day decision than anything that we’ve set in stone though, so it’s flexible.

  4. i like you guys, but you’re crazy

  5. “First batch of the week includes a batch of kale, 3 zucchini, 3 carrots, 2 apples, 2 pears, a basket of strawberries, quarter pineapple, and beets.”

I am no great cook but I have a recipe that I stand by. You take the kale zucchini, beets and pears and you blend them up.

In a separate bowl you add diced apples, strawberries, pineapples and beets. Upon completion of these tasks, pour the blended material into a narrow dirt trench and carefully backfill to avoid any human or unfortunate yard denizen from consuming that horrific waste of blender energy.

You then take the diced bowl down to the humane society and see if one of their critters is starving.

Next, you put your oven control to broil. You then insert a 2 inch thick porterhouse steak from Omaha, USA. When it just stops mooing, take it out of the oven and cover thoroughly with onions and mushrooms simmered in a port wine reduction and place gently in a small lake of A-1 sauce. Pull the cork from a 2003 central coast Syrah, pull the Raspberry pie from the small oven and finally strike crisply across the facial area, the person that motivated you engage in this liquefaction process in the first place.

The words Kale and liquefy used in the same sentence will now haunt me for the rest of the week. I am vectoring directly for the new bacon cheese Whopper right now just to regain my emotional equilibrium. Good luck to you gentlemen. You are a far far better breed of homo sapien than I can ever attempt to be. Aug

  6. Interesting experiment. My understanding is that if you don’t get enough protein, your body will start metabolizing your corporeal muscle mass in order to get essential amino acids– the body does this in order to protect organs like your brain. Hence, you start physically wasting away.

(This process kicks in very quickly– at night while you are sleeping, or if you just skip a single balanced meal, for example.)

It took an awful lot of work to pack that muscle onto your bodies– why would you risk losing some back as a result of a diet lacking protein? You don’t really have any excess fat to lose, unless you are planning on entering a bodybuilding competition and need to get “ripped”.

I dunno, maybe this has all been figured out and this freaky diet does include all the essential amino acids– but I would be very surprised if we are just talking fruit and vegetables. But maybe it includes legumes, etc.

  7. Let me know how this goes Malzone! It is the year of surgeries for me, and my next adventure is to get my wisdom teeth out on September 23rd. Since I will be drinking my food for a while, any reccomendations for drinkable meals would be appreciated! Good luck my friend!

  8. I love juice. Especially grape juice.

I am particularly fond of the Syrah grapes grown in 2002 or so to which my esteemed colleague discussed above. Oh yes, they must have been fermented in 2003 and then put in bottles to keep all the healthiness from sneaking out.

I could do that for 10 straight days.

  9. And on the eleventh day (speaking of bacon): http://youtu.be/7Xc5wIpUenQ (or one of the other fine recipes from the boys at EpicMealTime on YouTube). Actually with a big enough blender I’m sure you could make bacon juice.
