VEGETABLES VS. AMERICAN IDOL.

By

Campbell proving that push ups are a great bodyweight exercise...of sorts.

I found this the other day and of course as a health practitioner and someone that makes a living in the fitness industry, was appalled as usual.  This is an incredibly good read on just why the situation in our country is what it is.  (And it’s really not good.  Santa Barbara is not the best representation of the U.S.)  Who every thought that companies producing the highest rates of disease causing food would have an input into the ADA?
Here’s a snippet of the ARTICLE for you.

“Latest figures confirm the ridiculous: three out of four of you (Americans – tb) will be ‘overweight or obese’ by 2020. To gauge perspective: there are now more ‘fat’ people than ‘white’ people in America. Perhaps our bigots of the future will swing their hatred away from ‘race’ to the slim and healthy.
The shrinking minority are, indeed, the shrinking minority.
Stupid? Welcome to a population who know less about what they put into their mouths than they do about, well, take your pick…celebrities or cars or American Idol or iPhones? Animals have the intelligence to know what to eat and to never get fat (except the ones fed by humans). Yet that simple challenge, gaining nourishment without destroying the body, is beyond your capabilities?”

Please read the whole thing, forward to anyone you think might be interested and post your thoughts to comments.

First response, wear it!

Interesting article Trav – can’t believe the country is so oblivious.

So…my legs are still toast from Monday so today will be voluntary punishment. Basically like letting Ed Reed take out my knees at a full sprint

If you spend enough time around a Crossfit Gym you’ll learn the benefits of a diet other then the one we’ve grown up eating. It’s a small start but a certainly an important one.

Wow, what an article. I had a thought the other day… I was craving some condensed soup…and being lazy and sick I almost bought a can…until I read the ingredients…. They were trying to promote it as a healthy soup…lower in sodium….only uses natural sea salt…then I read it has MSG in it!!! Dohhh I just wanted to plaster the isle with DONT BUY THIS MSG CRAP…lol. I hate how all these companies are trying to make coco puffs heart healthy when they have 200% your DRV of sugar, and “natural hearty” soups that have MSG and high sodium…ugg no wonder…..

I have quite a bit to say on this topic, but I don’t think my comments will make me look like a very nice person. So… poor America. Or rather poor Americans who have to have this reputation and don’t represent it.

coco puffs?

And once you start talking about the farm bill and subsidies for corn and soy, it gets truly evil.

Devil’s advocate: How do you feed & sustain a nation w/o the use of cheap grains? I’m lucky that I live in SB and can afford to eat fresh & local produce and meats, but that’s not possible for many (most?) people from an economic or even availability standpoint. Just thinking out loud here about the possibilities of extending paleo ways while also supporting the population.

8

Bacon….I don’t think paleo is for everyone, but there are ways to make purer foods without all the chemicals, preservatives, and unhealthy ingredient fillers that mass manufacturing companies put in foods these days. Cheap grains are not the problems artificial foods are….

9

Bacon, the subsidies are what they are for economic and political reasons, not health and sound policy reasons. If we subsidized fruit, veggies, and nuts, we might look like a different nation. Imagine fruit and veggies $0.25 a pound, year round and everywhere, like Happy Meals!
