SETH GODIN

By

Kate powering through WOD #2 at the Clash!!

Seth Godin writes a great blog that I check daily.  It’s filled with useful business ideas and his take on the world is also quite interesting.  Here’s a snippet of one that I really liked.  If you enjoy it, please check Seth’s blog HERE.

“Momentum is incredibly useful to someone who has to overcome fear, dig in deep and ship. Momentum gives you a reason to overcome your fear and do your art, because there are outside forces and obligations that keep you moving. Without them, you’d probably stumble and fall.
And yet…
And yet many of us fear too much momentum. We look at a project launch or a job or another new commitment as something that might get out of control. It’s one thing to be a folk singer playing to a hundred people a night in a coffeehouse, but what if the momentum builds and you become a star? A rock star? With an entourage and appearances and higher than high expectations for your next work. That’s a lot of momentum, no?
Deep down, this potential for an overwhelming response alerts the lizard brain and we hold back. We’re afraid of being part of something that feels like it might be too big for us.
Hint: it probably isn’t.”

I’m sure the 6am class has some thoughts on momentum. It’s a nice thing to have when you hit pullup #70.

I try not to gush too much about the elbows of our CPC ladies, but the last two photos have shown AWESOME front squat elbow form…oh my!

What I got about momentum: Momentum is a stage in operation. It is when you make big promises and keep them, it’s when you swing out a little bigger….It doesn’t happen to someone, it’s more like a powerful declaration one can make about the state in which they operate. Momentum precedes the stage of “mastery.”

Oh man, you guys hit my life right on the head right now! I think I have been afraid of too much success in my life, even when I crave it, I never see it to fruition, and that is what keeps me in limbo….finally I stepped out of my safe little shell and took hold of the reigns of opportunity and have embraced my success with the opportunity of a great career move. I just landed a great job yesterday, and I have had to tell myself more than I would like, that the only thing that will hold me back in this new position is myself! I need to embrace my leadership role, be proactive, and strive for what I want in life, and not just hope it happens or falls in my lap. Wow… I grew up allot this past week! Now if I can just keep applying this to my Crossfit! I can do a pullup, a muscle up, MURPH…. not I hope to one day do it! Momentum is a powerful thing and we Crossfit so we are strong enough to hold on and enjoy the ride of life!

Anyone who has figured out where “momentum” became “catching a tiger by the tail,” please let me know; I seem to have passed it by unnoticed about three weeks ago.
