WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT HERE.
ByOne of the more frequent questions that Eric and I get is, “What should we be doing on the days when we’re not here?” This is a very good question and one that has two distinct answers.
Firstly, the only way to get in shape for and stay in shape for CrossFit is to do CrossFit style workouts. That’s a fact. We post the workout of the day here on the site so if you’re elsewhere or can’t make it into the gym there are a ton of workouts on here to choose from. There are also a whole host of other CrossFit gyms that do their own programming. The websites for CrossFit Ventura, CrossFit Los Angeles, and CrossFit Goodland are all great places to check for workouts if you’re somewhere on your own and don’t have access to necessary equipment that our workout calls for.
Secondly, do what you love. If you love to surf then surf your brains out. If you love to rock climb, do yoga, run, swim, paddle, etc, then please do them. CrossFit was designed to enhance your performance in every other physical activity that you do and we love to hear stories about people who’s jiujitsu, snowboarding, volleyball etc have all gotten better from the work that they’ve put in here at CPC. Do something you love because life is short and there may come a day when you are no longer physically capable to do so. Do something you love because the experience is like putting an energetic deposit into your savings account – it will be there for you to pull out next time that you’re stuck in traffic, at the doctor’s office or not feeling well. If that thing that you love happens to be CrossFit, then come on in.
Today’s Workout:

45 Box Jumps
30 Push Press (95#/65#)
30 Box Jumps
45 Jerks (95#/65#)

I think this brings up another great point. If there’s something you enjoy doing outside of Crossfit, share it with your fellow CPC’ers. Fielding’s a great rock climber and goes frequently. Miguel is a stick fighter and currently training for a fight in 6mths. Danette is largely involved in the paddling community. Kate loves urban street fighting. Baker is a certified scuba diving instructor. There’s a substantial group of surfers here too. If there’s an activity that you want to learn, there’s a good chance somebody at CPC can teach it to you.
Grab a fellow CPC’er and go do something cool…because you’ll probably kick way more ass than those pesky non-crossfitters in whatever the activity is. If there’s an activity that you enjoy that you’d like to share, please do.

The Claw plays poker. Just a little; no, I’m not really very good; remind me, what beats two-pair?
Seriously, I want to learn to bodyboard and then to surf this summer.

I train reining/working cow horses. After about 4 years off I thought I would be sore when I picked it back up a few months ago.
To my suprise I was neither sore or tired and had NO problem throwing around those big ol’ saddles or lifting my kids up so they could ride.

I like disc golf, bowling, and trail running (Mesa, or Elwood). I would like to get back into paddling (6 man Outrigger) as well, but with people slightly more serious, CC classes are for sight seeing.
I played softball for a time, but was the girl everyone made fun of and was always injured, pulled hammies, balls to the face, spectacular ballerina moves in right field, it was ridiculous!
I am eager to to try anything once. Urban street fighting sounds like a great time

When I’m not in the gym I am working at an entertainment company, singing at open mice
s. Writing, running on beach in Summerland. Manifesting m dream life, attending landmark seminars, farmers market. Downtown two times a month tops. Freestyle street running. No fighting, except for traditional dials with gloves to the face over fernete. Spelling? Kayaking sounds awesome! I am looking to go back to SNCC soon as well. Yay for sharing

Speaking of other nearby Crossfits in addition to LA, Goodland, and Ventura, don’t forget to mention CrossFit Santa Barbara.
