DA HOOK GRIP.

The HookGrip

What is a hook grip and why should we use it?  Great question.  The hook grip is the method in which an athlete grips the barbell, which is first gripped with the thumb, then the remaining fingers grips both the thumb and the Barbell. It can be used in both the events of weightlifting i.e in the snatch and the clean and jerk.
The hook grip is considered to be a more secure grip compared to a closed grip or natural grip where the thumb remains outside the other fingers. Also, history of this sport reveals that athletes who use the hook grip can lift more weight compared to those who use a closed grip.  On the other hand, the hook grip may not be as suitable for beginners as the thumb or thumbnail may suffer pain (a lot of it), although this can be overcome by regular training and not being a wuss.

I had a suspicion this WOD would be long and hard, and I was right. No sign of anywhere to rest, except for maybe a moment on the top of the box.

Baker put up some epic numbers for tomorrow’s challenge: PR’s on his “before” standard.

Glen was back for more, which was awesome; and he brought another victim, er, candidate, Paul, who put in a killer performance on his first day.

Unless you were, you know, this morning, we had more fun between 6 am and 7 am than you did!

Thanks everyone, ya last night freakin ROCKED! Donnie and I will be hitting the challenge WOD tonight… we’re SO ready to crush it… and then just kick the living shit out of it in March :)

Claw- good job on the WOD today, looks very tough and metcon-y

Haha, yes I love it. KJ and Donnie, you kill that challenge WOD.

Hook grip thumb blisters suck, but since I started using it regularly I won’t go back. Have caught myself hook gripping the car steering wheel while driving (nerd).

I’ve been reassured that nobody has ever had a thumb yanked off while using the hook grip, but I’m still not convinced.

Off to work on that “not being a wuss” thing. :P
