There is simply no other exercise, and certainly no machine, that produces the level of central nervous system activity, improved balance and coordination, skeletal loading and bone density enhancement, muscular stimulation and growth, connective tissue stress and strength, psychological demand and toughness, and overall systemic conditioning than the correctly performed full squat.” -Rip

I’ve always liked this quote from Rip. It really takes into account everything that you don’t realize is happening during the back squat. In my mind, prior to doing Crossfit, I always just envisioned the back squat as targeting my quads. I realize now that I had absolutely no clue what was really going on. Much like in the same way that I never knew what real fitness was until I came to CPC.

Same here, Jeff. I always knew that starting my globogym workouts (prior to CrossFit) with back squats would could cause a hormonal response. I had NO idea until a few years ago that a proper back squat is so effective overall.
That being said, I’ve invited myself to Rip’s house for Christmas. He hasn’t returned my call, email, letter, or candy-gram. I can only take no response as approval and am booking my flight to Texas today. I can’t wait!!!

Malzone, make sure all luggage is filled with varied cuts of red meat.

Another of my favorite Rip quotes: “I do not call it a shoulder press for the same reason I do not call it a leg squat or a back deadlift: Because that would be stupid.”

Malzone, just wrap yourself up and have yourself SENT to Rip’s house. Poke holes in the box so you can breathe. Subsist on some of the meat Crossley mentioned. And take pics!

Happy holidays, everyone!
