WHO DO YOU HAVE TO THANK?

So good to have Cill deadlifting at CPC!!

So good to have Cill deadlifting at CPC!!

A few of you know about my friend Glen Cordoza because I’ve probably talked about him during your Intros.  Glen and I met in Thailand where we were both training in Muay Thai and became fast friends.  Glen was about my same weight but was much faster, stronger and had better cardio than I did.  This was perplexing to me since I was coming off, what I thought at the time, a serious training regimen.  I asked Glen what he did for his conditioning and he gave me the one-word answer that obviously has drastically altered the course of my life – CrossFit.  Who was the first person to tell you about CrossFit?  More importantly, have you thanked them recently?!  Do tell.

My Cross Fit apostle was none other than Traver. It took a while for him to convince me to give it a shot but I’m glad I finally did. Since I joined my local CF, I have pushed myself beyond anything I did before and now I look forward to every work out.

Thanks Traver!

I have my co-worker Danelle to thank. She and I both wound work out and take spin classes at Spectrum and she had been asking me for months and months to go with her to an intro class for Crossfit, and I kept saying “no way!” because it looked very very hard and I wasn’t ready for that.

Then, one day last February Donnie was in Japan and I was bored and feeling like a fatty. I told Danelle I was ready to try CF.

We both went to an intro class at CF Ventura, and we were hooked! She joined right away but I was looking for a gym up here in SB. I was SO jealous of hearing about her WOD’s because I desprately wanted to get that great of a workout everyday too. I tried doing it on my own at Spectrum and at the track, and then finally it happened… I found CF Pacific Coast! My life has never/ will never be the same :) I’m very thankful for Danelle turning me on to Crossfit.

I ran across Crossfit in an article in Men’s Journal describing Murph several years ago. I did it on and off on my own, then got talking with Arthur about it. Arthur found the workouts at UCSB run by Colin and Huff before they opened their box in Ventura. I did just one or two of the last workouts Colin ran at UCSB, then he and Huff opened Crossfit Ventura, and I went down there for a couple free Saturday workouts. I then waited — not so patiently — for someone to open a box in SB that I liked.

SO, I have to thank Arthur for finding Colin and Huff, then Colin and Huff, and then Traver and Eric for opening CPC.

Miss Jaala Thibault was my inspiration! A fellow philanthropist and ex-collegiate athlete, her excitement for CF was contagious. After just one day of thinking about it, I gave CFPC a call.

Stuck in a rut and not able to compete in soccer anymore due to knee surgery, crossfit was the perfect prescription to get my butt back in gear and get back my focus and hunger for competition. Thanks Jaala!!

My first intro to Crossfit was an article I read about Jason Statham, who was doing it for a movie role he had, this was about 2-3 years ago. I knew right then that Crossfit was what I wanted to do. Unfortunately the nearest gym was in LA at the time. The next time I heard about Crossfit was when Eric came into the Dive Shop inquiring about dive lessons. He told me what they were doing and I was sold. I went in for my intro and never looked back.

I have to thank Eric and Traver for opening CPC and changing my life.

Hmmmm, I’m pretty sure that I tracked down the CrossFit mainsite after doing random searches on the “300″ workout. Saw some of the exercises and decided to give it a shot. Su and I did the WODs we could at Spectrum, then met Colin and Huff, and took part in the first ever UCSB WOD.

From there to CFV to CPC where we signed up and the rest is history.

Sooooooo….thanks to Huff and Colin and Traver and Eric.

Traver was my muse. 3ft of “Sierra Cement” was the catalyst. Thanks T

Justin Riley, owner of CrossFit East Sac, made me his apprentice CrossFit Jedi in Winter 07. I was a dumb body builder/rugby player, but i was good at it, or so i thought. When I first looked at the main page I thought it was so dumb. What the hell is all this bodyweight crap? Haha, after i tried my first WOD I fell in love. Its been about 2 years now and I have never been more of an animal. Look out Aromas.

On the thanks note I know I have all ready said it but i really can’t say it enough. Thanks Traver and Eric, and all of you guys at CPC. I will miss my summer of training there, but don’t worry whenever there is absolutely no metcon involved and the rep scheme is less than or equal to 3-3-3-3-3 ill come in. haha. I love you guys. Thanks.

PS: anyone lose a pair of black arnette sunglasses?

It is neat to read about all of those beginnings. Glad I could coax you into joining CPC Lisa. You are awesome and getting better everyday!

CPC’s website… I was googling fitness trainers one day because I was sick of the gym. I was so intrigued by the website I called and set up an intro. I guess I owe my thanks to Traver and Eric.
