IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING.

Thanks for dropping in to train with us Edgar!

When Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile mark, he was the first to do so in history!  That’s a lot of people trying to run a mile under 4 minutes and failing.  Sports writers and coaches had deemed the feat to literally be “impossible” – stating that the human body was incapable of reaching and sustaining that level of speed.  Well, Roger Bannister broke that age old record on May 6, 1954 and low and behold, a mere 46 days later someone else did it as well.  As a matter of fact, in the next 2 years, 37 people went sub 4-minutes on their mile runs.  Coincidence? I don’t think so. What we deem as possible vs. impossible is usually just a combination of what we’ve seen others do and what we believe we’re capable of ourselves. Take a moment and think of something that you once thought was impossible but you now can do.  Post to comments.

Mine isn’t really a tale of fitness or athletic achievement but when I was a kid I was terrified of the water. I wouldn’t leave the shallow end of the pool for fear of drowning or something from the deep snatching me off the surface. As irrational as that sounds remember I was younger than 10 at the time.

Years later with a lot exposure to the community pool back home I was able to overcome my fear of deep water and it has changed my life. Learning to dive was a huge step for me in overcoming those last few lingering misgivings about the water. Almost ten years later I’ve been a certified diver and have worked in the dive industry for the last four of those years. I’ve been diving in places, depths and conditions that would unhinge most people and I find myself coming back for more. I also work with new students and people who are already certified to help them become better divers and make them as comfortable in the water as possible.

Like I said before, it wasn’t a physical accomplishment but a mental one and I feel that’s at the core of what we do at Crossfit, we overcome physical barriers but we also break down walls that hold us back mentally.

Like Traver said, if you think you can do it anything is possible.
